Walt Disney World Welcomes Magical ‘Journey of Water’ Inspired by Moana
In honor of The Walt Disney Company’s Centennial, Orlando’s Walt Disney World Resort marked the actual date of its 100-year anniversary on October 16 with the unveiling of a captivating new attraction: “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” at EPCOT.
Guests can now wander through a beautifully landscaped walking trail brimming with delightful surprises at every turn. This Polynesian-inspired pathway allows visitors to interact with water in a manner that echoes Moana’s special connection with the ocean. As Disney Parks’ first-ever experience built around the animated film “Moana,” this immersive environment adds to the array of attractions at the sprawling vacation destination in Central Florida.
The debut of “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” is part of Walt Disney World’s ongoing expansion, coinciding with numerous exciting projects announced at the Destination D23 event. Positioned as the latest chapter in the resort’s expanding storytelling legacy, the attraction offers guests the chance to meet Moana in person in a new section of World Nature.
Adjacent to “Journey of Water,” this alcove provides an ideal setting for capturing memorable moments, sharing hugs, and discussing the importance of water conservation with the courageous Wayfinder herself. From the youngest tykes to the young at heart, every family member can partake in this enchanting, interactive experience, discovering how to befriend, protect, and cherish the life-bringing water that connects the world.
Much like Moana’s ocean friend, the water in this walk-through world exudes a playful spirit, inviting guests to engage in the fun—playing music on “rain harps,” waving hello to dancing streams, and conjuring a powerful ocean wave.
As visitors traverse the trail, encounters with Te Fiti, the guardian of water, unfold, illustrating the infinitely repeating lifecycle. Favorite characters from the film, including Heihei, Pua, and Moana herself, are artfully carved into the surrounding rock formations.
The launch of this attraction aligns with EPCOT’s ongoing transformation, showcasing Disney’s trademark creativity and innovation. “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” joins a lineup of new in-park experiences, such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Connections Café & Eatery, and more, contributing to the park’s continuous evolution. Exciting additions like the Walt Disney statue, “Walt the Dreamer,” at Dreamers Point, and the lush World Celebration gardens are also in the works, providing ample green space for guests to enjoy.
