Alaska Airlines Faces Lawsuit After Off-Duty Pilot’s Disturbing Incident
Alaska Airlines is under legal scrutiny as three passengers file a lawsuit over an alarming incident involving an off-duty pilot attempting to shut down the engines during a Horizon Air flight last month. The off-duty pilot, facing 83 counts of attempted murder, was traveling as a ‘deadhead’ on the Alaska Airlines subsidiary Horizon Air.
Accusing the airline and Horizon Air of breaching their duty to ensure flight safety, the passengers filed the lawsuit in Washington as a class-action suit. The incident occurred on a flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco on October 22.
While seeking a public explanation for the unsettling event, the passengers question why the off-duty pilot wasn’t subject to preflight screening. Alaska Airlines and its law firm have not yet commented on the matter. The plaintiffs are also seeking damages, the extent of which will be determined during the trial.
