Carnival Cruise Line Sets Sail with 5G Connectivity on Carnival Jubilee
Carnival Cruise Line is making waves in maritime technology by introducing 5G mobile connectivity on its upcoming Carnival Jubilee ship. In a groundbreaking move, Carnival Jubilee will become the first Carnival vessel and the inaugural cruise ship in North America to offer guests access to 5G mobile phone service, thanks to a strategic partnership with Wireless Maritime Service, a cellular provider.
Luis Terife, VP of onboard guest commerce at Carnival Cruise Line, shared, ‘Carnival Jubilee will be the fleet’s most-connected ship—literally raising the connectivity bar for our guests and serving as another big step in a period of vigorous advancement of our onboard connectivity.’ He highlighted ongoing enhancements, including SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service, aiming to make it easier for guests to share their cruise experiences with friends and family.
Set to launch in December, Carnival Jubilee’s 5G service is expected to be available in early 2024. Guests can access this cutting-edge connectivity through cruise ship service plans offered by their wireless carriers. Following the debut on Jubilee, Carnival plans to extend 5G capabilities to other ships across its fleet.
In addition to the 5G milestone, Carnival has implemented fleetwide improvements to its Wi-Fi offerings. Recent upgrades on all 25 ships have established the necessary infrastructure for leveraging SpaceX’s Starlink Satellite service. Carnival has also entered partnerships with various internet vendors to provide vessels with multi-provider functionality.
Carnival Jubilee will set sail from Galveston on December 23, offering week-long Western Caribbean itineraries with stops at destinations such as Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, and Mahogany Bay (Roatan), Honduras.
