Colosseum Underground Tour: A Journey Through History
Hornblower Group’s subsidiary, Walks Tours, has introduced a revamped Underground Colosseum tour that offers visitors an immersive experience within this iconic Ancient Roman monument.
In collaboration with Rome’s Parco archeologico del Colosseo (PArCo), this new VIP experience includes fresh exhibits and multimedia installations, allowing visitors to explore the history of this ancient relic. Specially curated artifacts and digitally projected gladiators come to life through multimedia presentations.
Guests are transported back in time to the Ancient Roman civilization, witnessing scenes of gladiators traversing the underground tunnels connecting the arena with Ludus Magnus, their training facility.
Kevin Rabbitt, CEO of Hornblower Group, emphasized their commitment to environmental stewardship and expressed pride in their partnership with PArCo. This project aligns with their mission to provide outstanding services and experiences while promoting environmental and social sustainability.
The enhanced exhibition, which debuted on July 20, offers a sophisticated multimedia experience with realistic holographic projections that animate ancient warriors as they move through the original Cryptoporticus floor. Visitors gain insights into the secret underground passageways gladiators used to access the Colosseum from Ludus Magnus.
The tour features an extensive collection of authentic gladiatorial armor and ancient weaponry representing the styles used by gladiators in combat. Original Ancient Roman artifacts are on display from the collections of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, and the National Archaeological Museum in Aquileia.
Hornblower Group’s partnership with Parco archeologico del Colosseo continues to expand, with a commitment to preserving the Colosseum’s history. Stephen Oddo, Senior Vice President of Hornblower Group and President and Co-founder of Walks, expressed the honor of collaborating with such a renowned institution and their dedication to educating the world about this remarkable piece of history.
