Global Entry Mobile App: Streamlining International Travel

In September, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection unveiled its new Global Entry Mobile App, and I had the opportunity to utilize it for the first time this weekend. The efficiency surpassed the already swift Global Entry kiosk experience.
Upon opening the app mid-flight, I snapped a photo (admittedly not my best after a 12-hour journey) and later submitted my information in the customs area. Following a quick check-in with an officer, I seamlessly proceeded to baggage claim. For those without checked bags, leaving the airport took less than 10 minutes.
CBP highlighted that the app employs cutting-edge technologies to enhance security and improve the travel experience for trusted Global Entry members. Troy A. Miller, CBP’s Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, stated, “The new Global Entry mobile application leverages the latest technologies, in order to enhance security while further improving the travel experience for CBP’s trusted travelers.”
Considering the convenience of supplying passport information at kiosks in regular passport processing lines, I initially questioned the continued value of Global Entry when my renewal became due. However, the introduction of this app has unequivocally affirmed its worth, especially for frequent international travelers, justifying the Global Entry fee that also grants access to TSA Pre-Check.
