Hong Kong Disneyland’s ‘World of Frozen’ & Future Disneyland Innovations
This week, a global audience witnessed a special ceremony heralding the imminent grand opening of Hong Kong Disneyland’s groundbreaking ‘World of Frozen’ themed land, set to welcome the public on November 20. As the first Frozen-themed land in the world, it not only captivates audiences with its Scandinavian-inspired Arendelle Village but also offers a potential preview of future innovations at Disneyland Resort in California.
Under the DisneylandForward plan, proposed in 2021, a Frozen-inspired land was envisioned as a prospective theme park expansion, reflecting a long-term vision for the growth and evolution of the original Anaheim theme park.
The ‘World of Frozen’ at Hong Kong Disneyland features the heart of Arendelle Village, creating a captivating atmosphere for a “summer snow day” celebration. Key attractions include the ‘Frozen Ever After’ flume ride, ‘Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs’ carnival coaster, and the unique ‘Playhouse in the Woods’ theatrical experience, blending songs, projection mapping, special effects, and sensory elements.
Arendelle Village also boasts a variety of dining options, including the nautical-themed ‘Golden Crocus Inn’ and the ‘Northern Delights’ sweets shop. For souvenirs, ‘Tick Tock Toys’ and the ‘Traveling Traders’ pop-up shop offer a range of Frozen-themed merchandise.
This Frozen phenomenon isn’t limited to Hong Kong, with similar themed lands nearing completion in Disney parks in Japan and France. Tokyo DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs and the Kingdom of Arendelle in Disneyland Paris showcase the global popularity of Frozen.
The DisneylandForward initiative suggests that Tokyo DisneySea’s new offerings could inspire future developments at Disneyland Park in Anaheim. Alongside the prospect of a Frozen-themed land, five other potential projects centered around beloved Disney films like ‘Tangled,’ ‘Peter Pan,’ ‘Zootopia,’ ‘Toy Story,’ and ‘Tron’ are being considered, promising immersive experiences for Disney enthusiasts.
