Tateyama’s Winter Wonderland: A Visual Feast of 20-Meter Snow Walls

Experience the serene beauty of Tateyama by traversing the 90km-long Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021. This scenic journey combines trains, buses, cable cars, and trolley buses.
One highlight along the route is the Tateyama Murodo Plain, showcasing alpine flowers in summer and the pristine Mikurigaike Pond. At 2,450 meters above sea level, the plain transforms into a winter wonderland with heavy snowfall, forming 20-meter-high ‘Snow Walls.’ From mid-April to mid-June, visitors can get up close to this stunning natural phenomenon. 
The surrounding area, draped in winter snow, offers a mesmerizing landscape of pure white. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might even spot Toyama’s cherished prefectural bird, the ptarmigan, blending into the snowy scenery – once revered as a messenger of the gods.
