Brazil Launches eVisa for U.S., Canadian, and Australian Travelers

Starting December 1, Brazil introduced its new VFS Electronic Visa (eVisa) platform, streamlining the entry process for U.S., Canadian, and Australian citizens. The $80.90 (USD) eVisa application is entirely online, applicable for multiple entries, and offers a validity period of 10 years for Americans and five years for Canadians and Australians.
Applying through vfs.global involves three simple steps: registration, providing personal information, and paying the fee. The processing time is up to five working days, with approval notifications sent via email along with a downloadable PDF of the eVisa. Dual nationality holders should apply under the country that issued their travel documents, and those with a valid physical visa need not apply for a new one.
This digital platform, developed by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to expedite and simplify the visa application process. Additionally, Brazil has recently signed a bilateral agreement with Japan, eliminating visa requirements for up to 90 days for both Brazilian and Japanese visitors, effective since September 30. This reciprocal agreement reinstates the principle of reciprocity after a brief period of visa requirements in May.
