Jamaica Anticipates Winter Tourism Boom with 13% Surge from U.S.
It’s exciting to see Jamaica anticipating a busy winter season with a significant increase in the number of visitors. The surge in flights from various U.S. departure cities, including major carriers like American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and Frontier Airlines, underscores the island’s popularity as a travel destination.
Edmund Bartlett, the Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Tourism, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), and international and local partners in promoting tourism growth. The optimistic figures for stopover visitors during the first eleven months of 2023, indicating an 18 percent increase over the same period in 2022 and a 10 percent increase over the pre-pandemic 2019, bode well for the country’s tourism industry.
The proactive measures and strategic partnerships seem to be paying off, with the potential for Jamaica to reach its goal of 4 million visitors and foreign exchange earnings of USD $4.1 billion by the end of the year. The Director of Tourism, Donovan White, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with airline and travel industry partners and expects a record-breaking winter season in terms of stopover arrivals.
Jamaica’s appeal as a travel destination, coupled with the efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure and partnerships, positions the country for continued growth in the industry. If you have any specific questions or if there’s anything else you’d like to know, feel free to ask
